Montparnasse Guide

Montparnasse, on the Left Bank of the Seine, was once the haunt of students, it housed trendy cafes frequented by artists who tended to linger over their coffee. Although many of the buildings are new, there are lots of old hotels with charm and character in this area.

Montparnasse Hotels

The wide range of Montparnasse accommodation offers travellers great value for money, as it features hotels from the affordable to moderately priced; there are also many cheap hotels in Montparnasse. Although the area has many new buildings and contemporary accommodation, character hotels remain intact for those who prefer to stay in charming old buildings. It is easy to walk to several key Parisian attractions from this part of the city.

Many of the hotels in Montparnasse are close to the Bienvenue Metro Station, giving locals and visitors easy access to much of the city. The area is now rather modern, but some trendy cafes, which were around in the early part of the 20th century, are still a feature of Montparnasse, particularly along the Boulevard du Montparnasse and artists are still attracted to the area.

Top Things in Montparnasse

The Pantheon is one of the more prominent monuments in Paris. Originally, the building was a church and it still has a distinctive cross on the top.

Since opening its doors, Disneyland Paris has and continues to be one of the most popular tourist attractions in France.

Jardin Atlantique is a pretty park in a sea of buildings. It is so named because of the plants it features from the Atlantic coast.

Dining in Montparnasse

Paris has long been dining nirvana. Montparnasse was once the home of penniless artists who developed a reputation for sitting at street café tables all night. Today, many of these establishments remain and this area has classy restaurants and cafés, along with cheap alternatives. There are a number of top restaurants along with cheap, delicious alternatives like those selling one of the specialties of the city - wafer thin crepes with a wide range of fillings.
