Staatliches Hofbrauhaus

Hofbräuallee 1, 81829 München, Germany

Staatliches Hofbrauhaus is located in Munich, Germany and is considered amongst the city’s main attraction , with visitors from all over Germany and other countries.

The Staatliches Hofbrauhaus (state court brewery), also known as Hofbrau Munchen, is the world's most famous beer hall and Munich's biggest tourist draw. The word 'court' in the name reflects its royal origins. In fact, it was established in 1589 by Duke Wilhelm V. Initially only courtiers were allowed to sample the brew but in 1828, ordinary citizens gained the right.

The present Hofbräuhaus was built in 1897 and can seat over 4000 imbibers. It comprises several sections: the ground-floor Schwemme is the historic beer hall and other rooms, including the Trinkstube restaurant and a dancing room, are upstairs.

The Hofbrauhaus resounds to an oompah band and the wait staff is adorned in Bavarian peasant dress. Enjoy a nightly Bavarian show between 7:45pm and midnight.
