City Centre: Colosseum Guide

Rome’s history extends back around two and a half thousand years, and in and around the Colosseum are some of the city’s most famous attractions of all. The key to enjoying this beautiful, buzzing city is not to try and do too much in one go; take your time to explore the neighbourhoods, check out the restaurants, and simply stroll the streets to experience La Dolce Vita, Roman style. Hotels in the City Centre: Colosseum are plentiful and varied, so there is accommodation for all budgets.

Top Things in Rome's City Centre: Colosseum

The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was built in the first century AD to host gladiator fights and other extravaganzas; it was the equivalent of reality television for the thrill-seeking ancient Romans. Now one of the city’s most popular monuments, this is an absolute must-see. Some tickets will enable you to access the Roman Forum as well, an invaluable glimpse into Rome’s glorious history, with the Arch of Septimus Severus and Temple of Saturn. After reliving Rome’s wild past, take time to reflect in a beautiful church, such as Basilica di San Clemente, which is actually three awe-inspiring churches from Rome’s medieval Christian period.

Eating

The restaurants in general are very good, so you would be very unlucky if you found a bad place to eat in Rome. The Colosseum district is slightly off the beaten track and restaurants tend to be slightly cheaper in this area. Try the fantastic antipasti and seafood on offer in several restaurants in this area.
