Stockholm in Review
Visitors have often called Stockholm one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world. Located on the east coast of Sweden, Stockholm is made up of 14 islands connected by bridges where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Formerly labelled the European City of Culture, there are plenty of buildings to visit such as the House of Parliament and the Royal Stables which present a fine collection of carriages and live shows with magnificent horses. In Old Town, medieval Sweden comes to life on cobbled streets and through more splendid buildings. Other cultural attractions include the Royal Palace Drottningholm, Birka and Hovgården/Skogskyrkogården, three UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Particularly enjoyable during the summer months when the weather is perfect for ferry rides along the islands, Stockholm offers a wealth of museums, theatres, sights, attractions and events, whether your interest lies in history, art, opera, modern dance, traditional handicraft, contemporary design or virtually anything else.
Stockholm is a major international city with great shopping opportunities, quality eateries in abundance, fabulous standard hotels, an internationally renowned club and music scene and a vibrant cultural life all surrounded by sheer natural beauty. The atmosphere seems calmer and more relaxed compared to other capital cities and makes Stockholm the perfect destination for a cultural city break.
