Scott Monument

Scott Monument is situated in Edinburgh , United Kingdom and is one of the city’s major attraction , when visitors travel to United Kingdom.

The Scott Monument is an excellent example of Gothic architecture, designed in 1840 by George Meikle Kemp it was built in honour of the famous Scottish writer Sir Walter Scott. The 60m tall statue of him at the base of the monument is carved from Carrara marble and the spire has sculptural decorations etched into the sandstone depicting 16 Scottish writers and 64 characters from Sir Walter Scott's novels. Some people feel inclined to climb to the top of the monument for the views and it is well worth it for they are spectacular. If you are fit there are 287 steps to reach the top and a small fee to pay. If you don't like heights then don't attempt the climb as the staircase is very narrow.
