Lake District in Review
The Lake District in Cumbria, north-western rural England, is home to Britain’s largest National Park. Cumbria is considered to be one of England’s most beautiful counties and millions of visitors bring their hiking boots every year to immerse themselves into great outdoor activities in this breathtaking scenery. Hiking, climbing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking… there is something for everyone. The Lake District offers endless possibilities to boost your adrenaline. Less active but just as satisfying is to hire a boat or take a trip on one of the many pleasure boats to fish or simply lay back and relax, marvelling at the rugged countryside. There are loads of events for families and children, guided leisurely walks and cycling trips. The spectacular and inspiring views have been associated with the early 19th century writings of poet William Wordsworth.
Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain and Wastwater, its deepest lake make this a favourite UK destination. Small idyllic towns surrounding the lakes are packed with interesting little shops, pubs, numerous eateries and accommodation for all needs and budgets.
As unique as the geography of the Lake District is its cultural heritage. Find out why all the cottages are painted white and why some of the sheep are grey. Indulge in local treats like Cumberland sausage and partake in old traditions such as hound trailing and rush bearing.
