Another of Gaudi's masterworks, Casa Mila, locally known as La Pedrera (Quarry in Catalan), caused consternation to local residents when it was unveiled in 1910. The residential building is characterised by its cavelike balconies and eerie chimneys that were nicknamed witch-scarers. They form one of the city's most wondrous sites especially in the later afternoon sun.
