La Sorbonne
|
Place de la Sorbonne, 75005 Paris, France
La Sorbonne stands the world over for French Academia. The name refers both to the historic University or one of its successor institutions. The actual name 'Sorbonne' derives from Robert de Sorbon who founded the Collège de Sorbonne in 1257.
To the front of the Sorbonne is the Chapelle Ste-Ursule. It was built in the 1640s by Cardinal Richelieu whose body was later entombed there. To the front, linking the Sorbonne with Boulevard St Michel, is the delightful Place de la Sorbonne, a pleasant traffic-free zone with lime trees, fountains and cafes.
