Old Opera House (Alte Oper)

Built on the site of Frankfurt's original opera house, the Alte Oper is situated at the Opernplatz at the northwest corner of Frankfurt's inner city. It was badly damaged during the war and reconstructed as a concert hall resembling the original. It opened in 1981 with a performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 8. Alte Oper consists of the Grosse Saal (Large Hall) which can seat an audience of 2500, the Mozart-Saal with 700 seats, and several smaller halls.
