Rosslyn Chapel

9 Main St, Roslin, Midlothian EH25, UK

Rosslyn Chapel makes an interesting day trip from Edinburgh especially if you're a film buff or Dan Brown fan. This historic place of worship is now known as the Da Vinci Chapel and overrun with tourists. It's situated in the village of Roslin some 7 miles from Edinburgh. Officially known as the Collegiate Chapel of St. Matthew, it dates back to the 15th century. But Da Vinci associations apart, Rosslyn Chapel is a beguiling place with its elaborate pillars and 'green men' pagan fertility symbols which led to speculation about its associations with the Knights Templar who guarded the Holy Grail. To get there by bus, Lothian bus 15A and First bus 62 operate hourly services from Edinburgh City Centre. Then there's a walk of a few minutes to the chapel.
