The Book of Kells

Housed in the Trinity College Library, the Book of Kells is an illuminated manuscript in the style known as Insular art. It's the handiwork of Celtic monks and dates from around AD 800. The book contains the four gospels in Latin, together with prefatory and explanatory matter. It's decorated with many colourful illustrations and illuminations. Other treasures in Trinity College include 200,000 antiquarian texts, marble busts of scholars and Ireland's oldest extant harp.
