The Guggenheim Museum

Av de Abandoibarra, Bilbao, Spain

Located in the Basque city of Balboa, the Guggenheim Museum was designed by American architect Frank Gehry and opened in 1997. The huge structure is clad in titanium and its curious shape has inspired certain locals to nickname it "the beast" or "the cauliflower". The Guggenheim is situated on former dockyards at the intersection of the bridge Puente de la Salve and the Nervión River. The Guggenheim focuses art dating from the second half of the 20th century and houses works by Picasso, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol. Also displayed are works from young Basque and Spanish artists.
