Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square is a public area and the home of Lord Nelson's Column. Designed to commemorate Lord Horatio Nelson's victory against Napoleon's navy at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, it features a 43.5m tall Nelson surrounded by four large bronze lions. Also in the square are some impressive fountains and it is a favourite place for tourists and locals to meet and sit for a while, a popular activity is feeding the thousands of pigeons that gather here. There are a number of important buildings and institutions bordering the square, amongst them The National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and St Martins in the Fields.
